Itinerary for the historic center

Pitti Palace and Boboli Garden are located just a short distance from Hotel David. Pitti Palace was built around the middle of the fifteenth-century and shortly afterwards became the Medici family home. They decorated the building, starting with the courtyard designed by Ammaniti.
Here, the Medicis brought together their rich collection of Baroque and Renaissance art, which is still on show today in the Palatina Gallery. Other museums within the palace include the Modern Art Gallery, the Silver Museum and the Costume Gallery. Pitti Palace is completely surrounded by the splendid Boboli Garden, Florence's thriving breathing space.
Leaving Pitti Palace and heading towards the historic center, you will come upon the renowned Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence with age-old goldsmiths and silversmiths, whose art has been passed down from generation to generation, occupying both sides of the bridge.
Once you have crossed Ponte Vecchio, turn right and you arrive to the splendid Piazza della Signoria where you can admire Palazzo Vecchio, with its fifteenth-century halls with Vascari frescoes, Neptune's Fountain by Ammannati, the replica of David by Michelangelo and the Loggia della Signoria with its Cellini and Gianbologna statues.
From the square, continue towards the picturesque Via dei Calzaiuoli and you will arrive to Piazza Duomo with its mighty Gothic cathedral, with its dome with Vasari and Zuccari frescoes, the square bell tower designed by Giotto and San Giovanni Baptistery, built in Romanesque, Florentine style.
